Wii Lightsaber – The Latest Sensation

November 22nd, 2008 admin Posted in Wii Accessories No Comments »

Star Wars fans all over the world rejoiced when they could finally get their hands on Wii lightsabers to use with their favourite Wii games in late 2007. There are a few different models on the market, but they all have a power up/down feature that lights up all the LEDs in ascending and descending sequence for that real Luke Skywalker effect.

Until mid-2008 wannabe Jedis had to be content with wielding their Wii lightsabers in make-believe combat, or to any video games where they could imagine a lightstick playing a part in the storyline. Their dedication and patience have paid off, however, now that Nintendo and Lucas Art Entertainment have launched two different Wii Lightsaber games that allow players to use their Wii remotes to control on-screen lightsabers. With the other hand, they use the nunchuck to move around and dodge their opponents.

When the first Wii Lightsaber game, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, came out in September 2008, it quickly became the latest sensation on the gaming scene. Players assume the character of Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice and help him to rid the universe of Jedi. The game takes place in the time period between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, and offers players countless exciting new scenarios to explore.

In November 2008 the second Wii Lightsaber game appeared in the market, to much fanfare. In Star Wars: Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels, players can choose between 10 different characters from the Clone Wars film, including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Tano. The big attraction of this game is the ability to use your onscreen lightsaber to duel with a friend.

Now it’s only a matter of time before we see a Wiimote made to look like a lightsaber for an even more authentic Star Wars gaming experience.

What Accessories are Available for the Wii Fit?

November 21st, 2008 admin Posted in Wii Accessories No Comments »

The Wii Fit has become one of the most popular games on Nintendo’s Wii. The video game comes with a balance board that you stand on to perform over 40 different fitness activities that keep you in shape while providing hours of fun. If you want to enjoy your new toy to its fullest extent, you should also find out what accessories are available for the Wii Fit.

One of the most important accessories you will need for your Wii Fit is a rechargeable battery pack for the balance board. There are regular battery packs as well as lithium-ion Energy Packs. There is nothing worse than running out of battery power when you are in the middle of your favourite exercise routine, so you should always have one charged up and ready to pop in.

You must have a non-slip balance board mat to ensure that you don’t slide around when you stand on the balance board. The mat also protects your carpet or floor and gives you a comfortable surface for floor exercises. You can also get specially-made yoga mats for cushioned support.

To guard your balance board against scratches, and make it safer and more comfortable to use, you should get a silicone cover for it. These are available in a range of colours and designs. You might also want to buy a matching silicone cover for your game controller for that perfectly co-ordinated look.

Other accessories that are available for your Wii Fit include stylish travel and storage cases, ankle and wrist weights and cushioned exercise socks. There are various kits and gift packs with a great range of accessories to get you started.

Lastly, you must check out the new games that go with the Wii Fit. Two of the most popular right now are We Ski and Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2009. There will be many more games coming out over the next few months, so stay tuned!

3 ways to give your Wii Fit some character

November 20th, 2008 admin Posted in Wii Accessories No Comments »

It would be awesome, if we could customize our Nintendo Wii Fit just like we would our cell phones, wouldn't it? I know I would add a special theme to give some shine, to give some real personality. You may be happy to know that with some thought and brainstorming, you can make your Wii Fit unique, without it being hard and expensive. Here are three different ways you can make your Wii expressive.

1. Adding a Silicon Cover to the Balance Board.
Probably the easiest and most cost efficient ways to give a Wii Fit some pizzazz is to add a designer cover to your balancing board. For example, you can add a leopard skin pattern, a national flag or even a custom made design to add some of artistic expression. Not only can your cover add some of your personality to your balance Wii Fit, but it also protects it from dirt and perspiration, it even adds some grip, making it safer against accidents.
Thanks to the extreme popularity of the new Wii Fit, there is a high supply of covers which has helped slash the retail prices. A functional and nice silicon cover can go for less than $1 off of eBay.

2. Top It All Off With A Wii Case or Skin
So maybe a unique silicon cover just isn't enough, take one more step further and doll your Wii remote control and console with a customized skin. I have some really creative skins, but the most outrageous I have seen is a "KFC" (Kentucky Fried Chicken) them. Evidently someone that it would be a good idea to design a controller skin with a chicken leg and KFC's logo. Even though it was nothing but a photo shopped picture, it had the potential to be the best seller of the year.

3. Customize Your Personal Mii Avatar
A Mii is your personal avatar that you have created on your Wii, a type of account picture it you will. Your Mii your personal graphic that represents you on your Wii. In order to have some spice to your experience of the Wii Fit, you can change your Avatar that will properly represent your real personality. If you are interested in something a little more custom, you can have a service produce one for you, for the simple price of no more than a price of a mug of coffee.

Getting Fit with the Wii-Fit

November 18th, 2008 admin Posted in Wii Accessories No Comments »

When Nintendo announced the addition to the successful Wii family a new accessory called the Wii Fit, the public was shocked and doubting. The Wii is well known for using a small remote to give a more lifelike feel to a game. However, the Wii Fit uses a balance board that will observe of all the changes in the player's body mass.

Most of the public was doubtful, but when it was tested, much to everyone's surprise, it worked, effectively. The new balance board is loaded with dozens of sensors that will calculate your BMI (Body Mass Index) based on the age and height you enter. After this, you can choose to play a game that involves yoga or exercising. Hoola Hoop is a game offered by Wii Fit that involves balancing a hoola hoop that has been "thrown" around you. This is a fantastic way to lose some weight by giving you a real workout.

A few limitations to the Wii Fit include not being about to use any downloaded upgrades like the Xbox 360 or the PS3. This means that you aren't able to download any new exercises. A second limitation is that the BMI calculation is based on the age and height of the player instead of their muscle mass. For example, if you are a person that has a high level of muscle mass, you'll probably be considered overweight instead of fit.

Wii Fit shouldn't be replacing regular exercise. You could lose more pounds by grabbing your Nintendo DS and taking a jog or long walk each night. Wii Fit, however, is a special add on to the Wii, and is something that the PS3 or Xbox 360 doesn't offer. So, if you are someone searching for a graphical game, you should choose the PS3 or Xbox. However, if you want something that is interactive and fun, and can help you get fit at the same time; try exercising with the Wii Fit.

Top 10 Wii Accessories

You Will Need Extra Controllers
Since the Wii only comes with one Nunchuck, and one Wii-mote, I would advise that you buy extras so you can include your friends and family in the games. The extra Wii-motes and Nunchuk will help take you gaming experience to an entirely new level. Take my word for it; Wii Sports is much more interesting when you’re playing a human.

The Wii Sports Pack
The Wii Sports Pack has a range of fun controller add ons that make the game a bit more realistic. The Golf Club Grip, miniature Tennis Racket Grip and a Baseball Bat all attach very easily and quickly to the Wii-mote.

The Wii Steering Wheel
Playing car games using the Wii-mote just doesn’t feel right. The Wii Steering Wheel is simple but effective and makes the game feel more natural, and more realistic. Wasn’t that the main reason the Wii was invented?

Better Connecting Cables
After purchasing the Wii you might notice the basic RCA cables that were provided were a bit, outdated. If you are one of the privileged, and own a Plasma, DLP or LCD screen, then a simply way to add some extra quality would be to replace the old cables with either the Wii S-Video cable or the Wii component AV cables. The Wii isn’t HD like Xbox 360 or PS3, but this is a fast way of getting a better picture at a minimum cost.

The Controller Docking Station
If you’re like me, a hard core gamer, you will also notice that the Wii-mote and Nunchuk love to eat up all the AA batteries. There are several different docking stations for the Wii-mote and Nunchuk that simply replace the standard batteries with rechargeable ones. When you aren’t using them, the Wii-motes are charging up for when you get back, and play for 12 hours straight.

A GameCube Controller
If you plan on taking advantage of the Wii’s backwards capability then a GameCube controller is a must have. You pick up a controller from Best Buy, or get one for almost free on eBay. The GameCube also has a cordless remote, the Wavebird, for a wire free gaming experience.

A SD Card
The Wii comes with a small 512mb SC card, which isn’t a problem if you only play a few different games. I, myself, bought a few 2 GB cards, as backup, because I know I’m going to go right through them. They aren’t too expensive, and if you like to continue where you left off, they are a must.

A Spare Sensor Bar
The Wii comes with an infrared sensor bar, which is what gives it its technology, but they are easily damaged. My cat pulled the cord apart and I was stuck for a week, waiting for the replacement. Go ahead and buy a spare, because something is bound to happen to everyone’s.

A Wii Points Game card
The Wii points system is one of my personal favorite features of the Wii. It allows you to buy classic games from the old Nintendo platforms, like Mario Kart, and play them on the Wii. You can buy a prepaid Wii point card or buy the points online. 100 Wii points per Dollar (US) is the standing rate.

Yes, Guitar Hero. Or Rock Band
Everybody has heard of Guitar Hero. I have it on PS2, and decided to buy it on Wii. Guitar Hero and Rock Band could be the best Wii games on the market, at this point. Either one of these games, or both if you have the money, is a necessity! Go buy the game, I promise you won’t be disappointed!
