Getting Fit with the Wii-Fit

When Nintendo announced the addition to the successful Wii family a new accessory called the Wii Fit, the public was shocked and doubting. The Wii is well known for using a small remote to give a more lifelike feel to a game. However, the Wii Fit uses a balance board that will observe of all the changes in the player's body mass.

Most of the public was doubtful, but when it was tested, much to everyone's surprise, it worked, effectively. The new balance board is loaded with dozens of sensors that will calculate your BMI (Body Mass Index) based on the age and height you enter. After this, you can choose to play a game that involves yoga or exercising. Hoola Hoop is a game offered by Wii Fit that involves balancing a hoola hoop that has been "thrown" around you. This is a fantastic way to lose some weight by giving you a real workout.

A few limitations to the Wii Fit include not being about to use any downloaded upgrades like the Xbox 360 or the PS3. This means that you aren't able to download any new exercises. A second limitation is that the BMI calculation is based on the age and height of the player instead of their muscle mass. For example, if you are a person that has a high level of muscle mass, you'll probably be considered overweight instead of fit.

Wii Fit shouldn't be replacing regular exercise. You could lose more pounds by grabbing your Nintendo DS and taking a jog or long walk each night. Wii Fit, however, is a special add on to the Wii, and is something that the PS3 or Xbox 360 doesn't offer. So, if you are someone searching for a graphical game, you should choose the PS3 or Xbox. However, if you want something that is interactive and fun, and can help you get fit at the same time; try exercising with the Wii Fit.
