In the run up to Christmas every year, one product always looks as if it is going to outsell every other item on the market.

In 2008 it looks like the winner of this race is going to be the Wii games console from Nintendo.

People work out how popular an item is going to be by analysing web searches on the internet.

Taking information produced by Hitwise it is clear that the Nintendo Wii will be this years winner. One in Six web searches for video games are for the Nintendo console.

However, Nintendo may not get all of the sales this Christmas, there is strong competition from the Apple Iphone and the Nokia N96 phones.

Whether consumers are directly influenced by other items available remains to be seen....
